The Varina Sports Bar, located in downtown Varina, recently hosted a golf tournament in memory of Kevin Traynor.
A well-liked and involved member of the community, Traynor passed away after a five year battle with prostate cancer and is missed by many family and friends.
Bob Clifford and Tim Parks, owners of Varina Sports Bar, decided to host the tournament out of respect for Traynor, with the goal of raising funds and awareness about prostate cancer. They are pleased to have raised $3,708.74 which has been donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation in memory of Traynor.
An estimated 75 people attended the event at the Crooked Creek Golf Club where Traynor also worked. Friends, as well as family from across the country, gathered for a day of golf, prizes, raffles and fond memories.
Surviving wife Marion Traynor expressed her appreciation for all of the sponsors, volunteers and players, saying, “It was a wonderful tribute to Kevin and words cannot adequately express my gratitude.”
Winners of the tournament were: First flght; Bill Akins, Wesley Marley, Jeff Parker and Tim Parks: Second flight; Colin Muldoon and Ryan Schmidt. Each were awarded generous gift baskets including valuable golf supplies, gift certificates and trophies.

Clifford says that he enjoyed effectuating the event, explaining, “Hosting this event has brought me many personal rewards. I look forward to finding more ways to immerse myself and my business in the local community.”
He invites the public to come in and get to know them better, whether through pool leagues, dart leagues, open mic or live band nights, or just to stop in to enjoy a drink and the friendly atmosphere.
