It was a busy weekend full of fun and fall family festivals in Fuquay-Varina.

Friday afternoon, parents were invited to dress-up their ghosts and goblins, grab a bag and visit participating merchants for a trick or a treat. Saturday morning, the early morning ghouls rose to take part in the the Zombie Run, a fundraising 5k walk/run that will benefit the Fuquay-Varina High School Technology in the Classroom initiative.

After the 5k run/walk, people could mosey downtown for the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce Tenth Annual Day in Downtown Fall Festival. This free, family friendly festival included arts and crafts, food, entertainment, contests, music and lots of fall fun.

Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association hosted the 10th Annual Chili Cook-off in the Fuquay district as part of the annual Day In Downtown celebration. The event was moved inside Shoppes On Main as a caution against high wind gusts predicted for our area. The change in venue did not dampen anyone’s spirits as more than 380 people made the rounds to get their taste of some of the best Chili in Fuquay-Varina. Thirteen contestants battled it out with their creative and delicious Chili recipes. The public judged the winners by placing their voting token in the contestant’s box that they thought was best…a very difficult decision according to the “tasters.”

A trophy for Best Presentation was awarded to Paul and Teresa Williams with Kick Me Up Chili. First Place ($500) was awarded to Joseph Fasy with the Fuquay-Varina’s Growers Market. Second Place ($300) was awarded to Phil Searcy with Phil’s Backyard Smokehouse Gang and Third Place ($150) was awarded to Joy Medlin with Frightfully Good.

The Chili Cook-off is organized by the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association. Gold sponsors include HH & H Mini Storage, Senter, Stephenson and Johnson PA, The Young Group of Fuquay and Weaver Brothers Volvo.

Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association would like to thank the Chamber staff and volunteers for a very successful event!
