Eddie Thomas “E.T.” Moore, 84, of Fuquay-Varina, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on December 26, 2012 at his home. He was born April 10, 1928 in Harnett County to the late Eva Davis and Eddie Rountree Moore.
Thomas, or E.T. as he was known to many, made his living as a farmer for more than 45 years, but his life was devoted to service to God, his family and his community. He was an active member of Rawls Baptist Church for 70 years where he served as a deacon first at age 18 and taught Sunday school to a variety of ages for 56 years. In his community he served in many positions in Harnett County including the Board of Education Advisory Council for LaFayette High School for 12 years as well as the Harnett County Board of Equalization and Review to which he was appointed at its inception in January 1997 and on which he served until December 2012. He believed that every Harnett County resident should be able to contact their government offices free of charge and successfully petitioned to make it a local phone call for all of the county’s residents.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Mangum Moore; daughters, Kathy Moore Watkins, and husband, Dan, Susan Vickers Smith, and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Jessica Blair Vickers, Morgan Leigh Smith and Andrew John Thomas Smith; sister, Sue Betty Gardner Kelly and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends visited the family at Rawls Baptist Church on December 29 from 1 to 3 p.m., and at other times at the home. A service of worship and celebration of his life was held following the visitation at 3 p.m. at Rawls Baptist Church, located at 10665 U. S. 401 North in Fuquay-Varina. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rawls Baptist Church Building Fund in his memory.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ray Cheely, cardiologist, and Dr. Joe Currin, family practitioner, who provided excellent, compassionate medical care for many years and were considered not just his doctors, but his friends.
