Since August, the Fuquay-Varina Middle School cheerleaders have worked hard with only two veterans. The mostly new squad showed off some spirit last Saturday at the Wake County Public School System Cheerleading Competition 2013 where they won first place for the non-tumbling division.
FVMS Cheerleading Coach Wendy Bost said it was a great experience for the entire squad.
“I was all smiles watching my girls perform. The level of pride I had for my squad was radiating out of me,” she said. “They are such special girls, and I would not trade one minute of the long road to competition for anything.”
Choreography began with Bost in July and the squad started learning something new every week. The boosters brought in the Glory Cheerleading Experience for a stunt camp and the squad fundraised for new metallic pompons and competition grade mats.
“I have had such a wonderful support system with parents. Any time I needed anything they were there,” Bost said. “The level of dedication of these parents super exceeded my expectations.”
