Holly Springs resident Lori Verni-Forgarsi is no stranger to the world of the written word. Verni-Fogarsi has worked as a freelance writer, journalist and columnist for more than fifteen years. Verni-Forgarsi is also the author of the book called Everything You Need to Know About House Training Puppies and Adult Dogs.
However, on March 16 Verni-Forgarsi is taking her writing skills to a new level with the release of her first novel called Momnesia. Momnesia takes readers into the life of a pretty business owner who feels dead inside.
“Between work, two kids, and a husband who finds her about as exciting as furniture shopping, this is the story of a (formerly-exciting but now way-too-typical) suburban mom who diagnoses herself with Momnesia and sets about finessing a new version of her old vivaciousness,” a statement about the book said.
Verni-Fogarsi said she began writing the book after facing life transitions in her own life.
“I went through a time when I myself, as well as several friends, were going through some life transitions—some of which I came to realize are very common amongst women: particularly the issue of getting ‘lost’ as an individual while in the throes of raising a family. I realized that if you could look at some of these things from the outside in, they could be both funny and enlightening!”
She said the book three and a half years to complete, but the journey has been well worth the wait. She said the response to her book has been extremely positive.
“Just about every woman I come across says, ‘That sounds like a perfect book for me!’ while most men say, ‘That sounds like a book my wife will love’,’” Verni-Forgarsi said. “A few open-minded males have said they’d love to read it and get a better understanding of what goes on in the minds of women. It’s expected to be a popular gift book for Mother’s Day too!”
Verni-Forgarsi said many people can relate to this book.
“I think the overall concept of ‘finding balance’ is significant to most people’s lives. Whether finding balance between ‘momminess’ and ‘sexiness,’ work and play, or any other areas, it’s important for everyone to find ways to balance our lives.”
Mommnesia is not the end of Verni-Forgarsi’s writing career. She is already at work on her next book.
“I’ve been working hard on my next novel, Gramnesia, and there is a sneak preview of the first chapter at the end of Momnesia! It’s about a couple of almost-empty-nesters who, right when their kids are just about all off to college, are faced with the sudden appearance of a pregnant teenage daughter they never knew existed!”
Momneisa can be found in many online bookstores. The book is being sold through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, & Independent Bookstore websites.
“At physical stores, I am told it will be stocked in all of the Raleigh area Barnes & Noble’s,” Verni-Forgarsi said.”Also, you can call ahead to any bookstore and if they don’t have it in stock, they can easily get it for you. It is available in paperback and Kindle.”
However, local residents can meet Verni-Forgarsi at several upcoming local events. The Momnesia Launch Party will be held at Chef’s Palette on Thursday, March 22, from 7-10 p.m.
“There will be exclusive prizes, book signing, giveaways, and gourmet hors d’ouvres,” Verni-Forgarsi said.
Verni-Forgarsi will also join an author panel at the Holly Springs Library. The event will be held Tuesday, April 10, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
“I will be participating in a panel that includes several local authors, discussing our books and having them on hand to sign.”
