With the sights and sounds of Halloween a quickly fading memory, I strongly encourage those wishing to save money to hit the after holiday sales.

The day after Halloween typically is the day that stores start dramatically reducing Halloween merchandise. This is the time to purchase Halloween outfits if your children are into playing dress-up or if you want to start looking for next year’s costume.

I also teach a preschool class at church and find after holiday sales to be a great place to get generic trinkets for my classroom’s treasure box. I know that I can find items like fall colored toys, bubbles and treats that are usually marked off 50 percent or more.

I like to look for baking supplies. Many of the cupcake holders are typically marked 50 percent off or more and usually have fall leaves. I can continue to use these items until Thanksgiving.

This also is a great time to look for items like candles, table clothes and other home merchandise that supports the fall theme and can be used through Thanksgiving.

I wouldn’t just go the day after Halloween to look for clearance merchandise. I find that as the days pass the sales only increase on unsold holiday merchandise. Make sure you don’t miss out on the great deals.

Did you get your coupon for free bread sticks this week? Make sure you do not miss out on great deals found on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/frugalfamilycolumn?fref=ts.
