The annual charity golf tournament sponsored by the Devils Ridge Ladies Golf Association was held on May 17 this year. For each of the past six years, the beneficiary of the tournament has been the Pretty in Pink Foundation. Founded and headquartered in Raleigh, the Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance for uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients. This provides for quality, life-saving medical treatment regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. With two new branch offices located in Wilmington and Charlotte, the goal is to reach out to breast cancer patients state-wide.

Patients who qualify may receive financial assistance for surgery, chemotherapy, administration, radiation therapy, office co-pays, COBRA and/or insurance premiums.

With the incentive to help fund this very ambitious and successful Foundation, the Devils Ridge LGA worked hard to surpass last year’s record income. The bills were paid, and the final accounting and auditing were completed. Under the leadership of Margi Ludwig and her committee, the old record was beaten. A check in the amount of $45,400 was presented to the Pretty in Pink executive director, Penny Lauricella, last week.

Next year’s tournament chairperson has volunteered. Laurie Wood is already thinking about how to raise even more money next year. If you or your business would like to join in the fight for quality care for those patients unable to pay for it, contact Laurie Wood through the Devils Ridge Golf Club.

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance for breast cancer treatment, please visit the website www.prettyinpinkfoundation.org, or call the Raleigh office at 919-532-0532
