While not every dealership took part in the Go Further with Ford evening last Thursday, Don Jenkin’s Carolina Ford jumped on the opportunity to get involved with the community.

The family-owned dealer that has been in business since 1973 prides itself on its heritage and neighborly feeling.

“Our community links are strong,” owner Bobby Jenkins said.

Ford Motor Company has a corporate commitment that falls right in line with the Jenkins family – get involved in the community. Jenkins remembers many years ago when the dealership held events outside that drew big crowds. The focus wasn’t on selling cars, just being a good neighbor and having fun.

The Go Further with Ford drew a smaller crowd than those days of the past because of the cold, rainy evening, but it didn’t dampen the spirit of the Don Jenkins’ Carolina Ford family.

Many got the chance to try their hand at being an “American Idol” judge. After watching a short clip of a terrible singer on stage, those that signed up could make a short video, giving their own judgment. The videos automatically uploaded to the Ford YouTube channel.

Ford will pick one winner from participants across the nation to win the newly unveiled 2013 Ford Fusion. Two other winners will receive tickets to a live showing of “American Idol” in California.

For every person that took part in the contest, Don Jenkins’ Carolina Ford gave $10 to the American Cancer Society – just one more way the dealership is getting involved in the community.

Jenkins’ father passed away in 2003 from cancer and a good friend and customer now is dealing with the deadly disease. Donating to ACS was a way for the dealership family to show their support of so many that struggle with cancer.

“We don’t want to be just a car dealership,” Josh Evans, internet sales coordinator for the dealership said.

The event Thursday, dubbed “random acts of Fusion,” was the official launch of Ford’s newest vehicle. Already, Don Jenkins had sold all but one of the new Fusions.

“They’re brand new,” Evans said. “They’re wanted cars.”
