Ruth Ann Rowland Kilpatrick, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City with her family at her side. A Graveside service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1942 to the late Jack and Zelma Rowland.
Mrs. Kilpatrick also was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lee Kendrick and Doran Kilpatrick; and her brother, Kenneth Rowland.
Mrs. Kilpatrick graduated from Fuquay-Varina High School in 1960, and then obtained a degree in Education from William and Mary College. She taught in the Virginia school system before moving to Atlantic Beach in the late 1970s where she met her future husband, Doran Kilpatrick. They were co-owners of the Clamdigger Inn, formerly Ramada Inn, where Ruth spent many years in the kitchen making the Clamdigger Restaurant a local favorite, known for its home cooking and wonderful desserts.
Mrs. Kilpatrick is survived by her two sisters, Faye Taylor of Fuquay-Varina and Linda Rowland of Raleigh; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and her special Clamdigger Inn family who loved her dearly.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Ennis St. in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
The family would like to give special thanks to Andy Beaujean, his wife, Lisa, and their son, Andy, for enriching Mrs. Kilpatrick’s life in more ways than they will ever know. To the nurses at Carteret General Hospital, Katherine, Katie, Pam and Christie, your kindness will not be forgotten.
