The jolly ole’ elf set up shop in Fuquay just after the Thanksgiving holiday last week.
For many families, traveling to the mall to see Santa isn’t in the schedule or the budget. Strafe Gaming Lounge decided to bring Santa to Fuquay instead.
Strafe co-owner Deirdre Wahl said the idea came as a way to help families see Santa close to home and bring exposure to the gaming lounge.
“A lot of people still don’t know we exist,” Wahl said.
Families began filing into 101 South Main St. on Friday. Santa will be available Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. On Saturdays each week, families will have a few extra hours as Santa’s winter wonderland opens at 10 a.m. Santa will be in town until Dec. 23 when he has to get ready for the Christmas holiday.
Santa’s helpers make the experience even more exciting for little ones, talking with parents beforehand so that the big guy addresses each child by his or her name.
But the experience is great for the whole family. There are a holiday craft station, bouncy house, dress up area and plenty of goodies to buy. Children of all ages can have a good time.
“If you have older kids, they can go to Strafe and play,” Wahl said. “It’s really a win for the whole family.”
And, so far, families have loved visiting with the big guy.
“We have a lot of excitement already,” Wahl said.
Santa tickets can be purchased at Strafe. Tickets cost $20 for the first child and $10 for any additional children. The cost pays for admission, a professional 4x6 photo with Santa and a gift. Concessions like hot chocolate, coffee and tea are separate.
Families also can buy a $10 ticket for just a photo with Santa. And Santa is happy to take photos with four-legged friends as well.
Strafe also hopes to use Santa’s visit to promote its track out program that starts up next year. Wahl said the one-week program during each track out period will give children ages 7 to 10 the chance to see behind the scenes of video games. But, she said, it’s more than that. Strafe hopes to bring in some physical fitness promotion as well with martial arts or self-defense demonstrations.
