Kids who play sports don’t just benefit physically. Research shows they also do better in school, develop personal discipline and learn how to get along with others. Sports are more than a game; they are a set of life lessons. The Town of Fuquay-Varina Parks and Recreation Department offers a full range of sports programming to help children get engaged and have fun. Registration for spring sports is ongoing through Feb. 23.
Parents and kids definitely will want to take advantage of the new Parks and Recreation programs that offer something for everyone. Here’s what’s being offered this spring: Coed T-ball for ages 4-6; Girls Softball for ages 7-18; Boys Baseball for ages 7-18; Coed Flag Football for ages 5-10; Coed Volleyball for ages 9-18; Coed Soccer for ages 3-10, Girls Soccer for ages 11-18; and Boys Soccer for ages 11-18. No need to worry about 7 year olds playing 18 year olds! These are the age ranges offered. The groups will be further divided.
All sports will be played at town-owned facilities and fields. The cost is $40 per sport for residents and $65 per sport for non-residents. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to play. Find sports-specific information, rules and register online at www.fvparks.org. You also can register in person at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center located at 820 South Main St.
The response to the Town’s youth sports program has been overwhelmingly positive. Kids are enjoying playing and learning and parents have enjoyed a very well-organized, thoughtful program. Parents and coaches continue to provide positive feedback about the program that grows with each season.
From coaches to scorekeepers, there are volunteer opportunities for everyone. Please call 919-552-1430 if you are interested in volunteering or if you have feedback on the program.
