Eric and Mary Christofferson, owners of "The Mitchell" and "The Teacherage" buildings in Fuquay-Varina, have been named the 2012 Main Street Champions. They will be recognized next week for their contributions at the N.C. Main Street Conference.
On Jan. 31, Eric and Mary Christofferson will be honored at the N.C. Main Street Conference in Salisbury as the 2012 Main Street Champions.
The Christoffersons will be added to the list of those who have proven to be pioneers and supporters of a town’s historic district.
The Christoffersons are shining beacons for the Main Street model in Fuquay-Varina. They have lovingly restored two properties important to the town’s history, one of which is located in the downtown district. They have done this in an exemplary manner by taking advantage of the incentives available for a green renovation and the rehabilitation of a historic property. Both projects were achieved with a deep appreciation for the structures and their history.
Their heroic efforts as Main Street heroes have not stopped with this work. Eric serves on the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Board of Directors and is past chair of the organization’s design committee. As design committee chair, Eric worked diligently on the project to install new banners in Fuquay-Varina’s downtown area and on the highly successful, En Plein Air event. Both projects will receive state awards this year because of their success to the Fuquay-Varina community.
While working with Fuquay-Varina Downtown to secure tenants for their downtown property, the Christoffersons donated the space as a venue for Art After Dark, and in 2012, the reception for the N.C. Main Street Managers meeting.
The Christoffersons own “The Mitchell” building, located on the corner of Academy and Main Streets, and “The Teacherage,” located on the corner of Academy and Ennis Streets.
