If you are still recovering from Valentine’s Day, do not forget that Easter is right around the corner. For those who do not have the money to spend on your children for the Easter holiday, there are a few simple tips on how you can save money.

For those who do not have an Easter basket, do not despair. There are several things you can do without having to break the bank.

One creative Easter basket idea is to use a pail for the sandbox. Typically you can find this item at the dollar stores and not only do they serve as a basket, but can used for year round playground fun.

You can also find inexpensive baskets at garage sales, Goodwill stores and thrift stores. Typically I can find these items for under a dollar. Plastic containers, decorated gift bags, decorated shoe boxes can also serve as wonderful places to display Easter goodies.

Although it is too late for this year, it is never too late to plan for next year. If your children do not have an Easter basket, visit the after Easter sales and purchase a basket for next year.

While my children have Easter baskets, I did purchase Easter egg coloring dye last year during their clearance sales and purchased the kit for under a dollar.

When for items to fill the basket with, I think it is important to shop the after holiday sales. Checking the clearance racks after Valentine’s Day and Christmas for discounted candy and toys is a great way to fill a basket.

If you have not been checking the clearance rack, you can fill baskets with cookies, homemade play dough, internet Easter color pages and other homemade items for your children to enjoy. There are countless internet sites with great do-it-yourself ideas.

Remember you do not have to break the bank when preparing for the Easter holiday. Being creative can not only be a whole lot of fun, but it can save you money as well.
