A record field of 96 golfers turned out for the 12th annual Superball Tournament for Hospice at Chicora Country Club on April 18. Proceeds from the event totaling $16,000 will benefit Hospice of Harnett County.
“It was extremely gratifying to see so many residents of Harnett County come out for a great day of golf and to support Hospice of Harnett County,” said Lee Malone, a member of the Hospice advisory board and tournament chair for 2012. “I think the number of players this year indicates the impact that Hospice has had in our community for the past 25 years.”
Presenting sponsor for the 12th consecutive year of the tournament was First Federal Bank.
“This is an important event for us at the bank each year,” said Shaunna Strong, head of retail banking for First Federal. “We know that many of our banking customers and their family members have benefitted from the services of Hospice of Harnett County in the past. So, supporting this tournament is another way to support our customers.”
Funds raised by the tournament will allow the local non-profit agency to extend its services to all medically eligible patients, regardless of their ability to pay. They will also help expand existing services, like bereavement counseling, to the residents of Harnett County.
Hospice of Wake County was founded in 1979, Hospice of Harnett County in 1986. On January 1, 2011 the two organizations merged; this relationship is designed to enhance access to non-profit hospice care in our communities. Both provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to those living with an advanced illness, their caregivers, and those who have lost a loved one regardless of age, race, religion, or financial circumstances. The service area includes Johnston, Franklin, Durham, Harnett and Wake counties. Guided by community-based boards of directors and supported by a dedicated professional staff, the goal is to provide compassionate hospice care that allows patients to enjoy every moment of their lives to the fullest.
