The Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association will return the nostalgia of an old fashioned outdoor movie night in the historic Varina shopping district on May 3 in the old Stephens Ace Hardware parking lot. Showing a kid-friendly movie about a video-game villain who longs to be a hero and tries to earn a medal to prove he’s not the bad guy everyone thinks he is will entice both young guests and the young-at-heart; some of whom may even remember the outdoor movies of the past.
The movie, shown on a large, inflatable screen with concert-style sound, will be much different from the 1940s when there was nothing more than a projector and a screen attached to a light pole on what is now Ransdell Road. Keeping with the old tradition, hay bales will be provided for the children but adults are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Admission is $1 per person. Children under 2 are free. Everyone receives a glow-in-the-dark bracelet as their entry token.
A kid-friendly DJ will provide a very engaging Preshow entertainment starting at 7 p.m. The Interact Club will be selling hotdogs, popcorn and beverages. The event will run from 7 to 11 p.m. and the feature film will begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m.
