Discover the rewards of sharing North Carolina’s history with others. As a volunteer docent at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh, you can meet people from around the world and learn more about our state. A series of training classes will begin on Monday, Sept. 17, and take place every Monday morning through November. For the first time, the museum is also offering an online docent training program. If you work during the day and want to volunteer on weekends, the online training is for you.
During training classes, participants will learn about interpreting touch items on exhibit Spotlight Carts, leading exhibit tours for children and adults, and more. Docents enjoy benefits such as field trips to historic sites, an annual appreciation reception, and lectures by guest speakers. The museum is located at 5 E. Edenton Street, across from the State Capitol. Parking is available in the lot across Wilmington Street. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The Museum of History, within the Division of State History Museums, is part of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
