Artistic Expressions, an art co-op at 118 Raleigh Street held “An Art Day In May” Saturday, may 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There were artists’ wares for sale in the court behind the store, as well as in the store, along with face painting for the children. There was a “Relay Painting” in progress where at least three different artists painted a portrait of an unknown face, each artist contributing different parts of the face and background on a canvas.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the music provided by guitarist Ed Stephenson and fellow musician, Cat Albanese. From under their tent came the soft Spanish melodies from their acoustic guitars and the rapid tempo of Flamenco, played with the beat of Cat’s drums and Ed’s guitar. Ed Stephenson, a teacher of Guitar Music at Meredith College has written the music for several of the pieces on the CD labled “Escencia,” which was on sale in the store and at their tent. The CD was created with the members of the group, “Inos Flamenca.” Cat Albanese, originally from Virginia Beach, now teaches at Neighborhood Academy in Clayton. Cat is a gifted pianist, drummer and guitarist. You can learn more about these musicians and their group at www.edstephenson.com .
Artistic Expressions will be celebrating their one year anniversary on June 2 during the “Celebration of the Arts.” For more information go to their site www.artisticexpressionsfv.com
