Fuquay-Varinians converged on The Meeting Corner, a locally-owned business on Main Street that offers antiques, handmade goods and Puerto Rican cuisine. The group of 13, including mayor John Byrne and commissioner Ed Ridpath, showed their support of downtown by Cash Mobbing the business recently.

Owners Jaquelina Marks and Edna Morales had $426 in sales during the Cash Mob hour.

Cash Mobber Anne Smith won a free-standing hand-painted bookshelf during the event. Also, Teresa Harris won a one-year subscription to the Fuquay-Varina Independent.

Marks is a well-known artist. Her En Plein Air Paint-off contest entry from 2012 won third place and and enlarged image is displayed on the side of the building where the Meeting Corner is located.

As participants in the mob browsed the shop, Morales provided samples of the meals she offers in the restaurant area. Her cooking has become so popular that extra seating has been added outdoors in the back as well as a small table on the sidewalk in front of the business.

“On a quick timeframe, you’ve become very special to a lot of people,” Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association Director Naomi Riley said to Marks and Morales during the event.

Jebb Graff of Graff Creative, the official Cash Mob photographer, also captured the event in pictures.
