Shoppers enjoyed more than locally grown fruits and vegetables on Saturday at the Fuquay-Varina’s Growers Market. “Thief of Hearts,” three gentlemen with wonderful voices, were singing oldie goldies, Motown, and more from the ’50s and ’60s.
A tribute to Elvis Presly, complete with black leather jacket and sunglasses worn by Dennis Pritt, was most enjoyable with backup by Mark Benson, and Keith Lawrence. Thief of Hearts also includes: DJ/ announcer, Mike Dalins, (with recorded oldies to play during breaks), and Donnie Kirkpatrick Pritt, wife of Dennis who declared her “the Boss,” in charge of logistics. Shoppers and passers-by were nodding their heads to the music as they shopped, and some even danced. The shoppers seemed to truly enjoy the melodies and energy joyfully generated by Thief of Heart’s performance.
There was a wide variety of produce to be sold as well. The cabbages from Holland Farms Produce were about 10 inches in diameter and dwarfed the peppers with their size. Vegetables and peaches from Barnes Farms and Produce, baked products from Paula’s Baking Shop were enough to tempt any fresh food lover. This year there is a new selection of hydrophonic and biophonic vegetables and products including herbs (fresh and still growing), plants, greens and more by a new business to the Market, Green Bee Farms, owned by veterans Mirka and Thomas Marlowe. They joined the Growers Market in April. There were also sunflowers for sale from The Home Place, along with honey, homemade pimento cheese and other canned goods.
The Growers Market of Fuquay-Varina is located in Centennial Square at the corner of N. Main Street and E. Academy St. Business hours are Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m.
