Ingrid Lederer is an artist who thinks off the canvas. She uses her painting talents to decorate and breathe new life into old furniture, tired decor and walls in need of a mural.
An art teacher at Middle Creek Elementary School where she has been teaching for more than six years, she said, “I enjoy working with my students. Having the honor of watching them grow and create is a gift in itself.” Ingrid will be retiring on Jan. 31, 2013 and will have time to pursue more workshops and painting.
Ingrid Lederer is an accomplished artist. She is a 1984 graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City, with a bachelor degree in fine arts. Born and raised in New York, Ingrid now resides in Cary. Her passion is painting.
After college, she became a fashion designer/ colorist. This job consisted of designing clothing and color patterns. She also has done murals for various industries. Ingrid has participated in many galleries and won awards for various art shows. She also ran workshops abroad for students. Ingrid took her students to Europe, Russia, France and Italy to teach outdoor workshops.
She didn’t just start out with such talent; it took many years of practice. Ingrid started painting when she was a little girl. She drew whatever she saw and realized she loved to draw. For 30 years, she continued to paint and has recently demonstrated her work through workshops that she holds at the local Art Store, Jerry’s Artarama in Raleigh. At these workshops she has demonstrated to other artists how to draw and paint shapes, shadows and landscapes, using watercolors, oils and acrylics. Her favorite style of painting is watercolor. Ingrid loves to do crafts such as working with clay and decorating furniture.
There are three main techniques that Ingrid uses: direct painting, glazer painting and “what-if” painting. Direct painting is when the artist mixes the colors from the brush right onto the canvas. Glazer painting technique is when the artisit paints in layers. For example, first paint a layer on the canvas, let it dry and then paint the next layer until the painting is complete. The “what-if” technique is the concept of thinking of different ways of painting a certain object. For example, Ingrid may paint a white cow with a blue shadow.
