“Let there be Art,” so says the Fuquay-Varina Arts Council. This past week marked the 12th Art After Dark Artist Market, that’s right, every month for one year. One day we will have the Cultural Center in Fuquay-Varina which will be a prominent asset to our area. According to David Morris, President of the F-V Arts Council, it will be great to have the facility to enhance the quality of life in and around Fuquay-Varina.

He said, “the time is now to start building the Cultural Center from the inside. That doesn’t mean laying physical bricks, but laying the public cultural foundation.” With things like the Artist Market, Art Walks, Local Concerts, Community Theater, Talent shows, and other activities, by the time the Cultural Center is built the community will be ready and the demand for its use will be there.

At last Fridays Art After Dark, local artists came out with everything from great paintings, photography, jewelry, wood burnings, metal craft items, stained glass and many unique local made items to see and purchase. The Arts Council is also connecting local artists with local merchants. Next time you are visiting a local merchant look around and you just may see examples of the “Gallery Around Town”. The Arts Council also puts out a regular newsletter with information and what’s going on that is art related in the area.

The Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) and is doing a lot of work with primarily volunteers and extremely limited funds. While many of the participating artists are members of the Arts Council ($30/yr), they are not charged to set up their booth and sell their works. The Arts Council believes it should support the artists, not be paid by them. As individuals and businesses are beginning to realize that an active Arts Council is something worthwhile, the financial support is starting to grow.
