Holly Springs artist Andrea Wilson will be one of more than 20 locals showing off and selling their work at the Artist and Crafters' Market on Raleigh Street Friday night.
Spectators can enjoy a musical performance Friday evening by Kristi Dixon, an 18-year-old pop sensation who writes and performs her own music.
The Fuquay-Varina Arts Council will kick off their 2013 season of “Art after Dark, ” Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. with a very special edition of their monthly art walk titled “Spring for the Arts.”
Nearly 50 local artists, organizations and businesses will join together in a creative potluck to provide a variety of creative, family-friendly events and activities to showcase local artists of all varieties in the downtown area. The event will include an artist and crafter’s market, live local music, kid’s crafts and creative activities, artist receptions, open mic, museum tours, student performances and more.
Musical performers will include Raleigh native, saxophonist and educator Ron Baxter, who has performed coast-to-coast sharing the stage with top jazz artists while appearing at numerous festivals, clubs and institutions. Spectators can enjoy a musical performance by Kristi Dixon, a youthful 18-year-old pop sensation who writes and performs her own music, and released her debut album, “Emotions,” when she was only 13 years old.
Adding to the mix will be locals Paul Latham and Manning Kimmel, as well as student performances by Annie Adams School of Music and Stars Theater and Arts Center. Between sets, spectators can share their own talents with spoken word and music on an open mic.
There also will be a classic “Cruise-In” car show, with the Fuquay-Varina Cruisers and live DJ in the Vance Street parking lot.
At Ashley’s Art Gallery, locals can meet internationally acclaimed, contemporary landscape artist from Atlanta Ford Smith with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. The show is entitled, “Where Landscape Go to Escape the Ordinary,” and is free and open to the public. While there, enjoy live painting performances and a wide array of artwork on display. A variety of local artwork can be viewed at Artistic Expressions, a local artist co-op on Raleigh Street, and at various other locations throughout downtown including Cape Fear Crafts and Gifts, the local Artist and Crafters’ Market, and Magnolia House Custom Framing.
The events will take place throughout historic downtown Fuquay-Varina, with the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Rickshaws and the Becky Medlin Trolley available to connect the many events and activities.
