Starbucks worker raise funds for cancer research
Thomas Schmidt raised more than $420 with Alex's Lemonade Stand at Starbucks in Fuquay-Varina last week. His proceeds will go toward cancer research in honor of his brother, Greysun Schmidt, who was diagnosed with cancer last year. Starbucks is a family and community-oriented place and loves to help with causes such as this in any way it can. Starbucks has been doing this fundraiser since it started. contributed

Women’s Club shares the ‘puppy’ love
Contributed<br> The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Public Issues Community Service Program collected items for the SPCA of Wake County from the club members. The group made a delivery Jan. 28 that included eight bottles of bleach, 10 boxes of dog treats, one large container of small dog treats, various small packages of dog treats, paper towels, seven cans of canned dog food, Kitten Chow and a $25 donation. Darci VanderSlik accepted the donations along with one of the puppies for adoption.
