During their back to school celebration at West View Elementary, New Creation Church and volunteers provided BBQ from Red, Hot, and Blue, Pelican's Snowball, and some inflatables for the children to enjoy. They also gave away about a dozen prize packs to staff members, and every staff member left with a little something to say "thank you".

While local resident Jason Underwood was serving as a church youth minister in Kentucky, he asked his youth the question, “If you could do anything for the Lord, and you knew that everything you needed in order to be successful would be provided, what would you do?”
According to Underwood his students in the class that evening insisted he answer his own question, and without hesitation Underwood told his students that he would plant a church. It did not take long for the Lord to begin speaking to Underwood about that idea.
“Later that night, as I lay in bed, it was as if the Holy Spirit was saying, ‘Look, if you believe what you’re teaching those kids, go plant a church.’ After much prayer and wise counsel, my wife and I agreed that was what we needed to do, so I resigned, and two weeks later we moved back to Garner to start New Creation Church,” Underwood said.
In January 2012, New Creation Church was incorporated. On March 4, the church held its first worship service in Underwood’s living room. Since that time, the church moved to its current location. The church meets in the aerobics room of the Fit for Life Health Club, located at 101 Professional Court in Garner.
Underwood said the church is a Southern Baptist Church with a laid back style.
“We are a Southern Baptist Church, but we probably look a little different than your stereotypical Southern Baptist Church,” Underwood said. “For example, you’ll only catch me in a tie at a wedding or a funeral.”
Underwood said he would encourage the community to visit the church.
“I would encourage the community to visit New Creation Church for three main reasons, and those three reasons are hinted at in a summary of our vision statement: “New Commitment, New Connection, New Creation.” Those three things sum up what we strive to be as a church.”
He said that his church said when focusing on the new commitment, his church focuses on Christ.
“We make a big deal about Jesus and what it means to live a life surrendered to Him. We don’t make a big deal about how you dress, or what you look like, or even the kind of music we sing. We focus on Christ and what he leads us to do to make a difference in the lives of people around us.”
He said connections are something else that is extremely important to New Creation Church.
“A church is a family united by their pursuit of Christ, it isn’t a building, and we take very seriously the example set for us by the early church. These people did “life” together, and we try to do the same. Having come from a broken home, I place a very high value on family connections, and having relocated here with no biological family to speak of, our NCC family has more than met that need for us. We want guests of the NCC family to feel like they belong, so much so that they feel the freedom to become a part of the family.”
Finally becoming a new creation in Christ is also something that the church focuses on.
“ We believe that when someone repents of their sin and commits their life to Christ, they become a new creation just like it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17. As a new creation, each follower of Christ has a unique role to fill in Christ’s mission to change lives with his love. That role will look different for each person, but each role is generated from a desire to become more like Christ and live selflessly. Because of this, we try to help each other live that way by serving our community as often and as creatively as we possibly can. We do it often, because we want an attitude of service to be a lifestyle and not an event. We try to be creative because we want to connect with as many different people in as many different ways as we can.”
Church services are held on Sunday at 10 a.m. During the service, nursery care is offered for infants and toddlers. Children from first through fifth grade join the congregation for the music portion of the worship service and then are dismissed for their own Bible lesson.
The church has a lot of things planned for the future. On September 22, the church will host a Back Yard Bible Club. More details about the event can be found on the church’s website at www.newcreationchurchnc.org. The church will also be hosting a Community Giveaway at DanceArt on Cleveland School Road.
“We’re not giving away a community, but we are having a free “yard sale” where people can come grab whatever they might need at no cost to them,” Underwood said. “This is just one way we are trying to share the love of Christ in a practical way.”
