Donna Friery has been involved in the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce for several years, but this year, she earned a new honor.

Named the 2012 Ambassador of the Year at the Chamber banquet this past February, Friery is ecstatic to have earned the recognition in such a short time. She had never been an ambassador before last year.

“You’re basically a cheerleader for the chamber and what it represents,” she said.

She always is talking up the chamber to local businesses and sharing her own experiences. The ambassadors meet monthly and are assigned new members to mentor.

Friery also takes part in the Surprise Patrol, going to three members each month to show the Chamber’s appreciation.

She loves sharing the chamber with Fuquay-Varinians. Even individuals can join the chamber, it’s not just for businesses.

“It’s just being a part of the community,” Friery said.

Formerly, Friery owned My Back Porch and My Front Porch. At that time, she joined the chamber and became more involved.

Since selling the consignment business, Friery joined Edward Jones three years ago as a branch office administrator when Robin WellingsLoftus opened the location on Broad Street in Varina.

“We fit right in with Fuquay,” Friery said. “It’s very rewarding to help people in their retirement planning. And it’s never too late to start.”

She moved to Fuquay-Varina in 2003, but she lived in the Triangle area for many years, taking up residences in Cary, Pittsboro and Raleigh since 1983. Friery loves the small town charm of Fuquay-Varina. It’s both a friendly community, and a town that’s close enough to the big city.

Friery won the 2011 Professional Women Leadership Association’s Professional Woman of the Year Award. She also was a founding member of the organization several years ago. She held the Chamber Board Chair position in 2009 and stayed on as a member of the board through the following year.
