The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Education Committee was delighted to be given an unusual opportunity for a “second” gifting. The Fuquay-Varina Community Library has been a vital part of the Education program for the Woman’s Club since 1954.
The recent gift goes back to 2008 when Cindy McConnell asked whether the club might help provide a special cage for a bunny to be enjoyed by the children visiting the library. The cage arrived in November. Sunny was hand delivered to his new home in January, 2009. When Cindy announced her retirement as manager of the library, Sunny decided he would do likewise.
The retirement party at the end of March was Sunny’s last hurrah. Dozens of children came to say goodbye. They sang Sunny’s praises, shared poems, and expressed good wishes. A sad occasion with many wonderful memories for Cindy and Sunny filled the library for an hour.
Despite the tears, a second opportunity was born. Sunny relinquished his cage. The Education CSP took it back and immediately turned around and gave it to the Public Affairs CSP. One of the major programs of Public Affairs is support for SPCA.
Chairman Bobbie Asad arranged for Wake County SPCA to receive the cage from the Woman’s Club. Sunny is happy to retire with his family. SPCA is overjoyed to receive a cage to house multiple of Sunny’s relatives. Public Affairs and the Woman’s Club members are all thrilled to be able to “give the gift that keeps on giving.”
