The Meeting Corner, a new restaurant and retail store in Fuquay-Varina, provides customers with the best of both worlds.

While sitting down to enjoy a homemade Puerto Rican-style meal, customers also can take a gander at the antiques, recycled products and handmade crafts for sale.

Edna Morales and Jaquelina Marks both had dreamed of opening their own business for quite some time. One day out of the blue, Marks noticed a store was on the market to rent. Immediately Marks called her friend from church to see if the two could merge their business ideas together and open a store.

After working tirelessly and enthusiastically for three months renovating, the business was ready for the grand opening Nov. 17. Many people attended the grand opening of The Meeting Corner to “shop, eat and be delighted,” explains Morales.

Marks and Morales already have their hearts set on a second store, which they hope will come soon. For now, their goal as a business is to succeed and grow.

Morales cooks while Marks is in charge of the decorating.

Morales tries to make her food as authentic to Puerto Rican cuisine as possible. On the menu, customers can find dishes like rice and beans, pastelon, tostones, empanadas and flan.

And the homemade meals have a healthy twist. Morales tries to accommodate a wide variety of appetites, whether it’s vegetarians, non-vegetarians or an entire family.

There is a permanent menu with daily specials and a dinner menu that is added to the website weekly. Customers can place large orders for pick-up online.

On the other hand, Marks uses broken furniture, yarn, old radios and lamps to build new things to sell throughout the store. She also paints, sews and hand-carves “Queen Ann” style dolls. Marks creates unique room-like scenes to display her work throughout the store.

There is a special sale at the end of each season during the year; the next sale will be sometime at the end of this month.

The Meeting Corner is located at 135 South Main St. in Fuquay-Varina. There is a parking lot for customer convenience as well as street parking available.

For more information, contact the owners at 919-346-1247 or visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/TheMeetingCorner. Find daily menu items, upcoming events, testimonials or place personal orders at http://themeetingcorner.com.
