This is the second article in a series on the Chamber of Commerce award winners that were announced last month.
James Spidle moved to Fuquay-Varina in 2004 from Omaha, Neb., where he had lived for 15 years before that. He grew up in Fayetteville and lived in Raleigh and Cary before moving west.
“It took us a while to get back,” he said. “And I’m never leaving again.”
One reason why the owner of Spidle Webs Web Design has such tight ties to the area is his love for Fuquay-Varina.
“I think people really value the downtown and the community feel,” he said.
That love and his countless hours of service to the community were recognized Feb. 15 at the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce annual banquet. He was named Fuquay-Varina’s 2012 Outstanding Citizen.
“It was a complete surprise,” Spidle said. “I had no idea.”
Spidle has been volunteering for about five years, working on the website for the Fuquay-Varina Museum and Woman’s Club. He also has worked with the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association and now is the chairperson of the association’s board.
“I really enjoy the volunteer work and I hoped I was making a difference,” Spidle said.
Just to be in the same category with past winners that have done so much for Fuquay-Varina, Spidle is honored.
But beyond his volunteerism, Spidle has an even bigger vision for Fuquay-Varina. He would like to see a cultural arts center.
“I can just see the downtown being a real family place,” he said.
