The Fuquay Varina Home Depot store declared Wednesday, Sept. 26 Customer Appreciation Day in an effort to say “thank you” to its loyal PRO shoppers and honor the local business owners who frequent The Home Depot for all of their business needs.

One professional contractor and regular The Home Depot Commercial Credit customer, Doug Ratcliff, was awarded a Ford F-150 Lariat pickup truck to support his small Fuquay-Varina business. Ratcliff owns Robden Inc., a residential home builder company, and plans to use the pickup truck to haul tools and equipment. Other customers who visited the store on Sept. 26 were treated to a complimentary breakfast and participated in games and giveaways, gift card raffles and vendor demonstrations.

J.T. Rieves, The Home Depot, Vice President Pro, said he never had to work so hard to give something away. When he called Ratcliff that he won a truck, Ratcliff found it so hard to believe that he asked Rieves to hang up while he investigated the Home Depot contest. It turns out that he was one of 12 million entries in the nationwide contest. Every time he used his Pro credit card, his name was entered. There was one winner in each of the southern, eastern and western divisions. Ratcliff won in the southern division.

He said the new truck was a welcome gift. His own truck had 246,000 miles on it. It was time for a new one.

His construction business took a hit like many others because of the economy the past few years. Ratcliff is enrolled at NC State University where he is studying psychology. His intention is to work as a counselor with veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Rieves said it was an honor to give the truck to Ratcliff. He works out of Atlanta now, but nine years ago he was part of the team that held the grand opening of Home Depot in Fuquay-Varina. He said it was a community effort to present the truck. Citibank provided the financing and Nathan Dickens at Precision Ford in Lillington provided the truck. Rieves said Home Depot also paid the taxes so that Ratcliff won’t have that expense to worry about next April 15.
