Healthcare providers and officials cut a ribbon at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington on Jan. 10. The 122,500 square-foot hospital opens Friday to patients, offering 50 private rooms and a plethora of services.
There’s now one more healthcare choice in the area.
Central Harnett Hospital, a 50-bed facility that is part of the Harnett Health system, held a ribbon cutting last Thursday before opening its doors to patients this Friday.
“This hospital is your hospital, folks,” Harnett Health President and CEO Ken Bryan said. “This is a community hospital.”
The facility is only two stories currently, but has the potential to be expanded to five stories and 150 beds. It will bring nearly 500 jobs to the area in the next 10 years.
Already, the facility is bringing in the best of the best. With more than 17,000 applications for jobs at the hospital, the new staff was handpicked to best serve the needs of the area.
“We know your choices for healthcare are personal,” Harnett Health Board of Trustees Chairman Ron Maddox said.
WakeMed is involved in the establishment of the hospital. It has been a critical partner is creating the facility and will remain involved with services like In Patient Hospice.
WakeMed Health and Hospitals President and CEO William Atkinson told the crowd that gathered for the ribbon cutting that no one facility in the state can cater to every healthcare need, so it’s important for hospitals to work together.
“We have to hold hands on this,” he said.
Also, the hospital will get Campbell students involved. The medical school students will have the opportunity to work toward their careers while helping the local community.
The hospital, along with its opportunities for the students and local residents, is “launching the community in a new direction,” N.C. Hospital Association President Bill Pully said. “You are the envy of North Carolina with what you’re doing here in Harnett County.”
Beyond Harnett County, the hospital could have an impact. Many Wake County residents are moving south and looking for quality healthcare.
Mayor John Byrne said he thinks the hospital will offer Fuquay-Varinians a great option instead of traveling to Raleigh.
“This is a good location,” he said.
