Stewart named Assistant Principal of the Year

At the JCPAPA (Johnston County Principals/Assistant Principals Association) meeting on Oct. 27, Tony Stewart, Assistant Principal at Clayton High School, was named the 2010 Johnston County Schools Assistant Principal of the Year. He received a check for $500 from the Johnston County Education Foundation.(JCEF). It was presented by the incoming president of JCEF, Brad Carroll.

Mr. Stewart began his career in education as a Teaching Fellow at East Carolina University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science Education in May, 2000. He began his teaching career at Clayton High, where he taught science from August, 2000-June, 2005. He also coached tennis and advised the Key Club.

While earning his Master of School Administration at NC State University (completed in May 2006), he began as an assistant principal intern at Clayton High. During the internship, he supervised buses, beginning teachers, mentors, Student Government Association (SGA), and 11th grade discipline. He then moved into administration full time as an assistant principal.

Since he began his career in Johnston County, he has received the Johnston County Outstanding First Year Teacher of the Year (2001) and the Johnston County Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year (2002).
