The inductees for the Hall of Fame’s second class are: Bill Holland, a Fuquay-Varina High School graduate who played at Louisburg College and at East Carolina and in the major leagues for the Washington Senators; Neal Sears, a 1999 FVHS graduate who played at East Carolina; and Buddy Walters, a 1980 FVHS graduate who played at UNC-W.
In addition to the Hall of Fame enshrinement, the Bengals Baseball Club will honor Grayson Evans (FVHS Class of 2005) as the Alumnus of the Year for his performance at UNC-W. The club also will honor J. G. Baker of the FVAA and the Town of Fuquay-Varina as the Alumnus of the Year for Community Service.
Coach Billy Godwin of ECU is scheduled to be the featured speaker. Mayor John Byrne will give the introductory remarks.
The public and all FVHS baseball alumni are invited to attend the festivities. The banquet starts at 7 p.m., preceded by a social gathering at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $50 each and can be purchased by contacting Tom Hayes at the Hit and Run training facility (919-552-5445) or via e-mail at thayes@hitandrunfv.com.
The Bengals Baseball Club is an organization that promotes baseball in the Fuquay-Varina community. The club provides aid to people who help children develop by playing baseball, and it gives recognition to those in the community who have excelled at coaching and playing the game.
