Young Guns: Starting a Business When You’re 18-25
Can you start the next Zappos, Facebook or Microsoft? Those businesses were started by people just like you! A growing group of young, energetic, and self-reliant entrepreneurs are starting businesses because they have great ideas and jobs are scarce. But, why work for someone else when you can start your own business? In this seminar you’ll learn: How to discover the idea that’s right for you; The basic steps to getting started; Where to find the money to get started; How to do a quick business plan; How to find out about licenses; Should you incorporate?; How to hire good people; and How to create low-cost advertising. This seminar can be your first step to small business ownership. Mike Collins, seminar presenter, started his first business when he was 11 and has started eight small businesses in his career. He teaches entrepreneurs across North Carolina how to start businesses.

Are You Ready to Start Your Own Business?
This seminar is a hands-on way to learn more about entrepreneurship. It encourages participants to think like an entrepreneur while learning about small business management. By the end of the seminar, each participant will have analyzed their reasons for considering entrepreneurship and will have assessed their capabilities to successfully create a business.

Hospitality Heroes
(Free – online)
Hospitality Heroes is an online training program for employees and potential employees of the tourism industry. The Johnston County Visitors Bureau designed the course in conjunction with Johnston Community College’s Small Business Center. Hospitality Heroes will unify Johnston County’s tourism industry by teaching front line employees about tourism, their local destination and customer service. The online course takes participants through three modules:
• What is Tourism, the first module, explains tourism on a national, state and local level.
• My Local Destination, the second module, explains Johnston County as a destination.
• License to Serve, the third module, explains how to deal with customers and tips for quality customer service.
This class is available online to participants for one month and a new course begins each month. Please submit the registration form by the 25th of the month for enrollment in the following month’s class.
