While the results won’t be announced until Thursday evening’s show, the Town of Garner is already fast at work to make plans for McCreery’s potential arrival.
There would be a short parade down Aversboro Road Saturday afternoon, ending at Lake Benson Park where McCreery would have a concert.
Garner Public Information Officer Rick Mercier said the Town expects a crowd of 20,000 to 30,000 for the special event.
People should plan on getting to Lake Benson Park (921 Buffaloe Road) no later than noon on Saturday if they want to participate in all of the Scotty homecoming public events. A few rules: No pets, no tents and no coolers. If Scotty makes it through this week, more details will be divulged Thursday at 9 p.m. on the Town of Garner website, www.garnernc.gov.
Public Works Director Paul Cox said his team is already on the job, cleaning streets and cutting grass around town in preparation for the possible visit. He said above and beyond beautification, Public Works staff will provide support for any events held, putting up barricades and cones on the big day.
Mercier said the Town’s budget for the weekend’s festivities is $51,000, but Garner hopes to find corporate sponsors to help with the costs. The Town will not receive any funds from American Idol.
The American Idol results show airs at 8 p.m. Thursday on FOX.
