Holly Grove Middle School was among six Wake County Public School System schools whose students’ art represented winners of the 2012 NC Art of Greenspaces contest.
Students in Ms. Hampton’s Visual Arts classes discussed the importance of private and public natural environments and their impact on our everyday lives. The winning visual (arts) representations were created by seventh graders Maggie Lewis/Meadow, Tory Strange/It all Matters and sixth graders Jolee Denton/Chicken Garden, Kimberly Fitzgerald/Earth Surprise and Megan Zogby/Just outside My Window. Along with other objectives this project promoted the 21st Century Learning themes Global Awareness and Environmental Literacy.
Project Evergreen donated $250 to each recognized school to further their art education program. WCPSS artworks entries, selected for Special Recognition awards are viewable online at the NC AOGS Contest web page www.projectevergreen.com/nc/aogs .
