On Sunday, July 15, Barney O’Quinn was presented the Silver Good Shepherd award by the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church and the Occoneechee Council, Boy Scouts of America. The Good Shepherd award is a national recognition for adults who have rendered outstanding service to Baptist youth through their church and one of the national youth-serving agencies, such as the Boy Scouts of America.

The recognition is made available through the Association of Baptist for Scouting. Its purpose is to acknowledge distinguished service by laypersons and pastors leading toward the spiritual, physical, mental and moral development of Baptist youth through service to the church and its youth programs.

The Silver Good Shepherd is presented only to those who have been a consistent Christian churchman and Scouter for more than 50 years. The presentation was made by Tom Hunt, Charter Organization Representative of Boy Scout Troop 614, John C. O’Quinn, Barney’s son, and the Reverend Tom Jenkins, pastor of the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church.
