Fuquay-Varina – Dallas S. Burroughs, Jr., 96, died at his home on Saturday, July 28, 2012 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 401 N Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Wiggins Burroughs on October 9, 2004.

Born on August 4, 1915 in Natchez Mississippi, Mr. Burroughs enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1941. He was stationed in the Philippines when World War II began and was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese on Bataan in 1942. A survivor of the Bataan Death March, he was a prisoner at Mukden Camp, Manchuria for almost four years.

He moved to Fuquay-Varina in 1951 where he worked with Cornell Dubilier for about 10 years and later for Standard Home Plan Service.

He is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Austin and husband, Nelson of Angier; two sons, Kenneth Burroughs of Fuquay-Varina and James Burroughs of New York; sisters, Thelma Jones of Texas and Nancy Jane Stout of Knightdale; two grandsons, Wallace Austin, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Raleigh and Dallas Austin and wife, Kimberly of Moncure.
