A change in the skyline of Fuquay-Varina

Did anyone notice something different about the skyline between Fuquay and Varina? There is a large mass of metal missing now. The old water tower which stood beside the newer one, was taken down August 10 last week. The water tower was built in 1937 as part of the water system installed by Fuquay Springs. Later when the two cities joined Fuquay-Varina was painted on the huge tower's side. The decision was made to take it down because its age and condidtion.

In order to remove the tower, sections of the top were cut through with a welder's torch and removed by crane.

Now the newer tower stands alone with our city's name on one side and F-V symbol on the other side.
