Eight years after its first release, “Gift of the Dreamtime - Awakening to the Divinity of Trauma” by Fuquay-Varina resident, S. Kelley Harrell, is now available in its revised second edition.
With a foreward by shaman and founder of The Last Mask Center, Christina Pratt, this fantastical memoir chronicles a modern shamanic journey from pain, to healing and accepting a calling to work as a soul healer of others. Groundbreaking at the time of its first publication in 2004, still no other modern shamanic work shares an experience of modern soul healing told from within the ancient shamanic narrative, bringing relatable and credible insight to contemporary soul healing.
Kelley began her own journey to healing when, she said, “my goal was just to feel better.”
Her personal journey showed her that “it takes all levels of approch to heal - support, minfulness, food.”
Through the book’s rare glimpse into her experiences traversing the spirit world, Harrell’s story becomes the reader’s adventure. She describes the book as her story of overcoming trauma, though says it appeals to anyone who’s endured deep hurt and seeks a way to heal from it.
“My work has centered around people suffering from PTSD, women who have had problems with fertility or miscarriages, sexual assault survivors, and people wanting to connect more personally with their spiritual support. The great reception of ‘Gift of the Dreamtime’ over the years has helped me to do that work.”
A Fuquay-Varina resident and ordained interfaith minister, Harrell writes for “The Huffington Post,” and has maintained the syndicated Q&A column, “Intentional Insights,” for over eight years. Her shamanic practice is Soul Intent Arts, and since 2001 she’s worked with a local and international clientele.
“We don’t have to change our belief systems to have compassion for one another,” she said.
“People from all walks of life come to me,” according to Harrell. “Believers, nonbelievers, Christians, aetheists, and everything between. The one thing they all want is relief, and sometimes they aren’t in the place to find it in their every day support systems. They just need to come at things from a different direction, and I can help them do that.”
