The Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the American Legion Post #116 on Johnson Pond Road.

“This is one of the important ways that a Chamber of Commerce can help inform, educate, and involve local residents,” said Chamber Director Tommy Broadwell. “Our system of government, even at the local level, is only successful when the electorate is given opportunities to get to know the men and women running for election. We aim to do that through the use of this forum.”

The forum, being held at the American Legion building at 6400 Johnson Pond Road, is the only public forum in Fuquay-Varina prior to the November elections. The format will involve a combination of pre-determined questions selected by the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee and questions from the audience that night. Each candidate will get a chance to make an introductory statement prior to answering questions. All county commissioner candidates and NC house and senate candidates have been invited to participate in this event. Dr. Steven Scott from Wake Tech will also be on hand to present information on the bond referendum regarding the expansion of Wake Tech, which will also be on the ballot in November.

The Chamber is soliciting candidate questions from the public. Any resident who has a question they would like the candidates to answer may submit it to the Chamber via email (info@fuquay-varina.com), regular mail (121 N. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina, 27526) or by dropping it off at the Chamber office during regular business hours. Chamber staff will select questions from the pool of those submitted.
