Florence Wood Mobley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed from this life to the next on Saturday October 20, 2012 at her residence. Flossie was 99 years old and lived in Fuquay-Varina.
Flossie was born in Gordon, Ga., on September 23, 1913. She graduated from Lanier High School for Girls in Macon, Ga., and attended Georgia State Evening College in Atlanta, Ga. She married Thomas High Mobley of Shadydale, Ga., on July 16, 1933. A member of St. John United Methodist Church in Augusta for 47 years, she was the Director of Child Care and Kitchen Manager for her church. She was also active in civic organizations in Augusta. She held numerous offices in PTA, including president of PTA at Garrett Elementary School. She was also active in De Molay Mothers Club of Augusta. Mrs. Mobley was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fuquay-Varina for 13 years.
A devoted wife for 65 years, she and her husband enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a loving mother and a good friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola Miller Wood and James Nixon Wood, Jr., her husband, Thomas H. Mobley, her sister, Clifford Wood Cassidy and her brother, James Nixon Wood, III.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Mobley Barker and husband Robert J. Barker of Fuquay-Varina; her son Thomas H. Mobley, Jr., and wife Carolyn Jenkins Mobley of Beaufort, S.C.; three grandchildren, Robert J. Barker, Jr., Nancy Barker Johns, and Thomas H. Mobley, III; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. at Williford Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina on Wednesday October 24, 2012. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m., the Reverend Anne Ahle officiating. Burial will be at Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, Ga., a suburb of Augusta, Ga., Thursday October 25.
