Wake County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Willow Springs home on Sunday after a father allegedly shot his son. Deputies surrounded the home for several hours, but later discovered the suspect was not there.
According to Wake County Public Information Officer Phyllis Stephens, deputies were called to a home on Hilltop Road in Willow Springs at 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 2.
Stephens said deputies discovered that Michael Byrd, 27, had been shot in the ankle during an argument allegedly by his father, Joe M. Byrd, 57.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they surrounded the home because they believed that Joe Byrd was still inside. Deputies waited for approximately five hours before entering the home and realizing that Joe Byrd had fled the scene, Stephens said. Deputies later located Joe Byrd at a friend’s home and Stephens said charges against Joe Byrd are pending.
