The 2013 Fuquay-Varina Arts Festival, sponsored by the Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club was held at Windsor Point Auditorium on Jan. 19 and 20, welcoming more than 450 visitors.

The students who participated represented 12 area schools, Kindergarten through 12th grade. The outstanding artwork and crafts displayed at the festival also came from community and club members. There were 362 arts and crafts submissions from the students, 30 from the community and 25 from club members.

Mayor John Byrne issued a proclamation declaring the week of Jan. 13, 2013, as Art Appreciation Week and personally addressed the attendees on Sunday afternoon.

Department chairman Beth Barlow’s committee included Polly Sheets, Debbie Semple, Vickie Cardin, Fran Price, Martha Smallwood and Linda Cromwell. Festival judges were Mary LaMagna for art and crafts and Jan Parker for literature.

A list of all winners from the festival will be run in the FV Independent at a later date. Winners will compete in the GFWC-NC District VI Arts Festival at the First Baptist Church in Raleigh in February. Winners of the District level will compete in the State competition in March at Campbell University in Buies Creek.
