Parents can help transition their children through the summer slide by taking advantage of GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program. It is a fun and free science education program that helps elementary and middle-school children “grow into science” and gets them excited about learning science with hands-on experiments.
Classes are held in your local public library and taught by certified teachers. Courses are being offered in several Wake and Johnston County locations, including the Holly Springs Cultural Center, Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex, Southeast Regional Library in Garner, The Clayton Center and Smithfield Public Library.
The dates available vary depending on the level offered. Level I classes are for children entering grades 2 and 3 only, Level II classes are for children entering grades 4 and 5 and Level III classes are for children entering grades 6, 7 and 8.
GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and administered by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in partnership with local libraries and local parks and recreation departments.
All children must be pre-registered to attend Science in the Summer. A parent must go online to fill out the registration form for her or his child. Children are selected on a first-come, first-served basis. A link can be found at www.scienceinthesummer.com.
