Ruth Chosy, formerly of Fuquay-Varina, went to be with the Lord on October 27, 20098 at the age of 85 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Landis and her second husband, Eugene; her father, Walton G. Gower, her mother, Mary Eva Greene Gower; her brother, Lonnie Gower; and a sister, Dorothy May Brown. Ruth is survived by her two stepsons, John (Louise) and William; four grandchildren: Sharon (Kurt) Kaufman, Rebecca (Jason) Danford, Shawn (Diana) Chosy, and Emily (Juan) Ayala; 12 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Gower Davidson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth graduated from Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing and Duke University and taught psychiatric nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan until marrying Gene in 1965. They retired in January of 1985, moving to Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina where they became active in her Sunday school class and United Methodist Women. She and Gene actively supported the La Bartolina, Mexico mission, delivering food and medicine for 12 years. When the political climate changed, Gene and Ruth stopped delivering food and medicine but worked actively in the Fuquay-Varina community to raise money for the mission.

Ruth was also very active in the Questors organization in Michigan and founded the first Questors chapter in North Carolina, eventually becoming North Carolina’s first state Questor president. Both Ruth and Gene looked forward to driving to the Questor annual meeting and convention each year.

Ruth and Gene moved to Brownsville, Texas in 2007 to be with son John and his family. She spent her final years caring for Gene until his death in January of 2009 and nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an amazing woman who entered a ready made family and became the matriarch of an ever growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom treasure her memory.

A “Celebration of Life” for both Ruth and Gene will be held at the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway SE, Fuquay-Varina, NC, on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 12:00 noon following the internment of Ruth’s ashes at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh, NC at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruth’s name may be made to either the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78520 or to the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway SE, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78520 (956) 546-7111.
