A newly opened country market is promising customers a return to “the good old days.”

C & D’s Country Market is opening Sept. 1 along Highway 42 just outside of Cleveland. Owner David Townsend says the new market will focus on primarily North Carolina products.

“There’s a big demand for North Carolina products. Everyone wants local and homegrown,” he said. “It’s a North Carolina focused store where vendors can bring their stuff to complement what we offer. Many of the products that will be offered are made or grown right here in North Carolina.”

The market will feature fresh produce and vegetables, as well as fresh baked bread, including white, wheat, sunflower and cinnamon varieties. They will also carry Nancy Jo’s homemade jams and jellies, In The Red Farm & Dairy products, featuring goat cheeses and custards, and plenty of homemade fudge, old fashioned cakes, pies and other goodies.

Besides food, the market will also have homemade soaps, fresh roasted coffee beans, t-shirts, monogramming, a photography vendor and much more.

Townsend says along with featuring unique and local products, his focus is keeping customers coming back.

“It’s an old timey market, with stuff you don’t see anymore, including great customer service,” he said.

All shoppers will be offered free coffee to sip while they’re browsing. And Townsend welcomes vendors who have their own special products to sell.

Vendors can rent space on site for yard sales, temporary or permanent sales. The cost is $15 a day. There’s electricity and plenty of parking available. Townsend says 30,000 cars pass the site five days a week, with 22,000 driving by on weekends.

C & D’s Country Market is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located at 4111 NC Hwy 42 West, half a mile down from Walmart. For more information or to become a vendor, call (919) 585-3812.
