FVEDC begins 50/50 Plan

The Fuquay-Varina Economic Development Commission, Inc. (FVEDC), Board of Directors has announced that their Needs Assessment Program, created to assist local businesses seek and employ financial and non-financial resources, will begin on Feb. 4, 2013. The program is part of the FVEDC’s 50/50 Plan; an initiative created to work with members of the community to advance existing businesses while working to leverage new commerce to the community.

As part of the FVEDC’s overall strategy to develop and create economic development opportunities for the town, the FVEDC has been focusing its efforts on identifying financial and non-financial resources to help drive its economic development agenda. The Needs Assessment Program will seek to continuously assess the existing businesses physical, financial, technological and workforce needs of individual companies who seek assistance via the program. Based on the relationships and the data gathered from business requesting assistance, the FVEDC will work to identify and customize financial and non-financial resources to assist that business’ specific needs and requests.
“The need to assist local businesses is vital as we continue to see the economy turn around,” stated FVEDC Chairman Tim Lucas. “This program is designed to seek business development resources from all levels of government and academia. We are interested in assisting businesses who need direction and seek advice as to how to grow their business so they can partner with the FVEDC to demonstrate that our community is a practical place to operate a business.”

The FVEDC will collaborate with the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce to administer the program. The program is applicable to all businesses in the community, from small shops to large employers like manufacturers and corporations. New businesses interested in locating to Fuquay-Varina are also encouraged to seek these services. Businesses who wish to participate in the program should contact the FVEDC or FV Chamber to schedule a needs assessment meeting.

“Existing businesses are the most credible sources for determining whether a community is a suitable place to locate a new business,” stated Jim Seymour, FVEDC Executive Director. “A community’s reputation as a solid place to operate a business is greatly recognized when its companies are expanding.”

In December 2012, the FVEDC announced that two of Fuquay-Varina’s largest manufacturers have joined its board. The two new members are: Southbend, a division of the Middleby Corporation, a recognized global leader in heavy-duty, commercial cooking equipment and TE Connectivity (former Raychem), a worldwide company offering products for wireless solutions, circuit protection, and mechanical and environmental protection, insulation and sealing.

One of the FVEDC’s objectives over the past year has been to expand its board of directors to include community and corporate leaders who are in a position and have the resources to grow Fuquay-Varina. “Fuquay-Varina’s industrial assets TE Connectivity and Southbend in addition to existing board member John Deere Turf Care are poised to help grow our community’s manufacturing and corporate community,” stated Fuquay-Varina Mayor John W. Byrne. “These companies are well suited to help the FVEDC develop strategy and leverage resources needed to attract large manufacturing facilities to our community.

“We believe in the area,” said Scott McNabb, human resources manager for TE Connectivity (Energy Americas). “Fuquay-Varina is the community where we want to focus our growth.” John Perruccio, President of Southbend stated, “Our business continues to grow and our economic forecast is positive. I look forward to working with FVEDC Chairman Tim Lucas and his board to create ways of attracting great products and high-paying jobs to the region. Fuquay-Varina’s dedication and commitment to economic development has helped us do that.”
