Mr. Odell Greene Wilkes, 76, of Spring Lake died Saturday August 4, 2012 at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunn.

He was born in the Fuquay-Varina area, the son of the late LeRoy and Lilla Mae Wester Wilkes. After marrying Jane Ashworth in 1956, they moved to Harnett County where he farmed his entire life.

He was preceded in death in 2001 by his wife, Jane and in 2012, by his daughter Monica Wilkes Falkenhagen. Mr. Wilkes was also preceded in death by five brothers, Leondus Wilkes, Alfonzo Wilkes, Sr., Willie Wilkes, Paul Wilkes, Glenwood Wilkes and a sister, Vivian Beamon.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina with Rev. Wayne Schlink officiating. The family received friends at O’Quinn-Peebles Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

He is survived by his son, Vernon Darryl Wilkes of Bunnlevel and daughter, Rebekah Jane Surles and husband Stephen of Dunn; grandchildren, Melissa Rice Durand and husband Chris, Lance Blain Surles, Miranda Jane Surles, Sydney Claire Surles; great-grandchildren, Armando Alexis-Vagen Acevedo II, Drayson Logan-Barrett Acevedo, Maverick Cooper-Bentley Durand; step-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Brown Wilson and Steven Nathan Brown.
