James Laten (J.L.) Patterson, 86 of Broadway, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington. J.L. was born on May 9, 1926 in Harnett County to William Barrett and Mary Cummings Patterson. He was the seventh of ten children, all who have preceded him in death; Taft, Julian, John, Perry, Caviness, Gilbert, and Lathan Patterson; Mary Stewart and Josephine Tankersley.

In 1945, he married Maxine Thomas Patterson. J.L. served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a Mason, a member of the Boone Trail Ruritan Club and an active member throughout his community. He was devoted lifetime member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years.

J.L. is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine Thomas Patterson, and six children, James Michael Patterson and wife Linda of Broadway, Robert Ashley Patterson and wife Kathy of Charlotte, Gary Wayne Patterson of Huntersville, Timothy Craig Patterson and Judy of Broadway, Ann Patterson Bost and husband Danny of Broadway, and Maxine Jan Patterson of Broadway. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 6 grea- grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, October 7, at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Baptist Church Multipurpose Building.
